KILN-DRYING

Kiln-drying is a process used to remove moisture from wood or other materials by placing them inside a kiln, which is a large, temperature-controlled oven. The purpose of kiln-drying is to reduce the moisture content of the wood to a level that is appropriate for its intended use. During the kiln-drying process, the wood is heated to a high temperature, typically between 130 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit, while being exposed to a controlled level of humidity.

This combination of heat and humidity causes the moisture inside the wood to evaporate and escape as water vapor. The kiln is also equipped with a system to remove the water vapor from the air, which prevents the moisture from re-entering the wood.
